Pool Size Calculator

Not sure of your pool’s gallons?

The seasonal contracts above are bracketed by gallons. If you’ve never measured your pool, this little tool will get you to the right tier in about 90 seconds.

Don’t stress about precision. A tape measure and a rough estimate on depth gets you within 10% — which is plenty close to land on the right tier.

Step 01

What shape is your pool?

Step 02

Pool dimensions

Pick a shape above to enter dimensions.

Inside wall to inside wall, the long way.
Inside wall to inside wall, the short way.
Distance straight across, through the middle. For above-ground pools, the labeled size (24 ft, 27 ft) is the diameter.
Longest straight measurement.
Widest measurement, perpendicular to length.
Longest straight measurement of the bounding box.
Widest straight measurement perpendicular to length.
Step 03

Pool depth

Most above-ground pools are 4 ft (48″), 4.3 ft (52″), or 4.5 ft (54″). Hold a tape at the water surface and drop down to the bottom.
Depth at the shallow wall.
Depth at the deep wall. If you can’t see the bottom, a pool brush handle held vertically and marked at the surface gets you close.

How to measure your pool

Length and width

Measure inside-wall to inside-wall, not the outside of the pool or the deck. For an above-ground pool, the printed size on the box is the inside diameter or length — you can use that number directly.

Diameter (round pools)

Stretch a tape measure across the widest part, going through the center. For above-ground rounds, the labeled size (24 ft, 27 ft, etc.) is exactly this measurement.

Depth, when you can see the bottom

Hold one end of a tape measure at the water surface. Drop the heavy end straight down until it touches bottom. Read the measurement at the surface.

Depth, when you can’t see the bottom

Use a long pool brush handle (or a painter’s pole). Lower it straight down until it stops, then mark where the water surface meets the pole. Pull it out and measure to the mark with a tape.

Average depth (for sloped pools)

The calculator handles the math — just enter the shallow and deep end measurements separately. Average depth is roughly halfway between them, and that’s what determines volume.

Still not sure?

Submit the inquiry form on the contact page with whatever you can estimate. A photo of the pool and the equipment pad lets me confirm size from satellite imagery and equipment plates — we’ll figure it out together.

What we don’t do

Honest about scope.

We focus on the work we do well: recurring pool and hot tub service, small repairs, and above-ground pool capital projects (installation, liner replacement & demolition). For everything else, we know who to call — and we won’t pretend otherwise.

Out of scope Who we refer to
In-ground pool work (any kind) We focus exclusively on above-ground pools for construction, demolition, and liner replacement. For in-ground installs, demolition, or liner work, regional renovation partners. Ask Dylan for an introduction.
Pool renovation, resurfacing, plaster & coping Affordable Pool Repair (Vermont) and other regional renovation partners. Ask Dylan for a current name.
Major leak detection & full-system pressure testing Dedicated leak detection specialists. We handle minor visible leaks; full-system tracing goes to a partner.
Hot tub or spa purchase & sales Resort Spa Services (Rutland) and Pool World (Burlington) for new equipment. We service what they sell.
Pool covers & safety cover sales Regional cover suppliers. Ask Dylan for a current name.
Hotel monitoring & building systems oversight Oversight LLC — our affiliated business for hotel building systems. oversightvt.com
Payment Terms

How we handle money.

Deposit

All seasonal and annual contracts use a 50% deposit at booking. The balance is due before the first scheduled service of the season.

Prepay Discount

Pay the full season or year in advance and save 10%. The discount comes off the contract total — chemicals are still billed at cost +20% as used.

Chemicals

Chemicals are bundled into the seasonal contract up to the listed allowance. Anything beyond the allowance is billed at our cost plus 20%, with prior notification before purchase.

Out-of-Scope Work

If we discover something on-site that’s outside the contract scope, we stop and call. No surprise charges — you authorize the additional work before we proceed.

Refunds & Cancellation

Deposits are refundable up to 14 days before service starts. After service has begun, refunds are pro-rated for visits not yet performed. Chemical purchases are not refundable once delivered.

Payment Security

All payments process through Stripe. We never see or store your card details. Stripe receipts are emailed automatically. ACH bank transfer is preferred for commercial invoices to reduce processing fees.
